SAT

SAT is a standardized test administered by the College Board and is required to be taken by students seeking admission to undergraduate schools. The full form of SAT is the Scholastic Assessment Test, which was earlier known as the Scholastic Aptitude Test. SAT exam has been developed to evaluate the written, verbal and mathematical skills of the candidates. Applicants aspiring to pursue undergraduate courses, particularly in the US and Canada, are required to take the SAT exam.

There are two SAT sections:

  • Math
  • Evidence-Based Reading and Writing

The SAT also includes an optional Essay section. SAT Essay scores are reported separately from overall test scores. Some colleges may require that you complete the SAT Essay. You can confirm each college's admissions policies on the school website or on our school profiles.

WHY SAT

Students looking to enroll in the undergraduate programs in the US appear for their SAT. Most of the colleges in the US require SAT for admission to the undergraduate courses. Apart from this, many schools also offer SAT scholarship money to students based on their SAT results. The purpose of the SAT examination is to assess student’s ability to speak English and solve Mathematical equations; SAT also has an optional test which is based on Essay. If you’re a high school junior or senior student who is willing to pursue higher education in the USA, you most probably will have to take an SAT examination as a part of your entrance exam requirement listed by your college

College Board, an independent established non-profit organization owns and manages SAT examinations. The cost to take the SAT and SAT (with essay) is $52 and $68 respectively.

REGISTER

SAT registration deadlines fall approximately five weeks before each test date. Register online on theCollege Board website.The College Board may require SAT registration by mailunder special circumstances.

HOW IS THE SAT SCORED?

Each section of the SAT is scored on a 200 to 800 point scale. Your total SAT score is the sum of your section scores. The highest possible SAT score is 1600. If you take the Essay, you will receive a separate score.

SAT EXAM VALIDITY

The SAT scores are valid over a period of 5 years, until or unless there has been a change in the criteria for SAT. Candidates mostly do not use their SAT scores till five years or so. They usually take new tests and then they apply to the desired colleges. Students can also order an additional copy of their scorecards for the purpose of sending it to more colleges and can pay a sum of $ 9.
